Much of Emma’s work involves creating social media strategies and policies and providing training and workshops on social media law. She also
teaches media law to journalists and lawyers and lectures personal reputation management on various MBA programmes. She is a regular commentator on radio and television. Models, Mistakes and Mayhem:

Idelia Hoberg - Actuarial Associate Director at EY (CERA, FIA)

Idelia recently returned home to South Africa after she had been working on Solvency II implementation in Europe for the last 7 years. She started out at EY in Zurich in 2011 and, after various consulting projects with Allianz, moved over to the Risk function at Allianz Group in 2014 and later, in 2016, took on a role of Capital Steering Lead for Life and Health business in the Corporate Finance function of Allianz Group. Idelia set up the internal and technical provision model governance and validation frameworks at Allianz Group. She also worked on the roll-out thereof for the life biometric and business risks as part of the Allianz’s IMAP submission.
Within her last role with Allianz she challenged and refined the methodology for the Return on Risk Capital metric and set up processes to embed it into the subsidiaries. Her expertise includes model governance and
validation, risk capital calculation, optimised capital allocation, capital management, economic risk capital, product development and risk management processes. She is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and Fellow of the IFoA.

Lisa is Chief Actuary of the Old Mutual Insure Group. Her previous positions include General Manager Actuarial at Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation, founder and MD of Willis Towers Watson South Africa’s short-term insurance practise, and Director at QED Actuaries and Consultants. Lisa is a past chair of the ASSA STIC and she currently chairs their Professional Guidance Committee.

Jaco is a Director with Deloitte and heads up the Non-Life practice area for the South African business. He has over 14 years of industry experience and covers the full range of actuarial services for a wide range of industry
players, both locally and abroad, including that of Head of Actuarial Function. Jaco previously chaired the Professional Guidance subcommittee and is presently Chairman of the ASSA Short Term Insurance Committee

Keynote Speakers: Piers and Siseko (Beyond the River)

Siseko Ntondini and Piers Cruickshanks, who together won gold in the 2014 Dusi.

Despite being from completely different walks of life, South African athletes Piers Cruickshanks and Siseko Ntondini together competed in one of the most grueling river races.

Not only did they compete, but the pair won gold in the 2014 Dusi Canoe Marathon and went on to inspire the story for a local movie.

Their true story is the basis for the 2017 South African film Beyond the River, set to hit the international circuit soon.

Lukas is a senior manager in the Short-Term Insurance practice of Deloitte Actuarial & Insurance Solutions. He has more than 8 years’ experience and primarily specialises in Short-Term Insurance and Healthcare pricing. He also has extensive experience in reserving, product development and risk management. He has also recently increased his involvement in the fields of actuarial modernization and workforce transformation.

Shuaib is a manager in the Short-Term Insurance practice of Deloitte Actuarial & Insurance Solutions. He joined Deloitte in 2012 straight out of university. He has more than 6 years’ experience in Short-term insurance with a focus on reserving, capital modelling and regulatory compliance . In addition, he managers a team consisting of software developers and actuarial analysts working on the EXEMPLAR reserving software platform. Shuaib has built several bespoke actuarial models for insurers offering niche insurance produces. He has also worked in several non-traditional actuarial spaces including the valuation and pricing of motor plans and modelling
telecommunications networks.
