Acts 2 and Bible Translation: Preserving God’s Word Across Languages
The unchanging Word of God must continually be translated and preserved in the changing languages of mankind. In this episode of Memorable Monday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore the history of the King James Bible, the legacy of William Tyndale, and why faithful Bible translation and textual criticism are essential to the church’s mission.
Beginning with the commissioning of the King James Version in 1604 and its publication in 1611, we trace the work of generations of believers who laboured to make Scripture accessible. We consider Tyndale’s pioneering work in 1526, the standardization of the KJV in 1769, and the publication of the first complete Afrikaans Bible in 1933. Along the way, we examine why language itself changes and why preserving God’s truth means communicating it in words people can understand.
Drawing from Acts | 2:6–11, Isaiah | 40:8, 1 Corinthians | 14:9, 19, Colossians | 3:16, and 2 Timothy | 4:2, this episode demonstrates that the church’s task is not to preserve one historical dialect, but to faithfully preserve and proclaim the meaning of God’s Word to every generation.
