Guarding Your Heart in Parenting: Proverbs 4 and Biblical Parenting
The greatest influence you have on your children is not ultimately your parenting techniques, but the condition of your own heart. In this episode of Wisdom Wednesday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore why biblical parenting begins with personal holiness and why guarding your heart is one of the most loving things you can do for your family.
Drawing from Proverbs | 4:23 and Luke | 6:45, we examine the “overflow principle” taught throughout Scripture: what fills the heart eventually flows into words, attitudes, and relationships. Rather than focusing first on fixing our children, God calls parents to cultivate their own walk with Him, recognizing that children often experience the overflow of their parents’ spiritual lives.
We consider practical ways to guard the heart through dependence on God, visible prayer and Bible reading, and humble repentance when we fail. Most importantly, we find comfort in the perfect fatherhood of God, who is slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness, and faithful to His children.
Key Scriptures include Proverbs | 4:23, Luke | 6:45, Psalm | 103:8, and Ephesians | 4:32.
Whether you are raising young children, teenagers, or simply seeking wisdom for family life, join us and reflect on how Christ transforms parenting from the inside out.
