2 Timothy 4 and Expository Preaching: Hearing God Through His Word
Faithful preaching is not a religious TED Talk or a motivational speech—it is the authoritative proclamation of God’s Word. In this episode of Theology Tuesday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore Paul’s solemn charge to Timothy in 2 Timothy | 4:1–5 and consider what biblical preaching should look like in the life of the local church.
What happens when a preacher steps behind the pulpit? Where does his authority come from? Why should Christians bring an open Bible to church and expect the text itself to be expounded? We examine the biblical pattern of expository preaching, where the point of the passage becomes the point of the sermon, and where conviction rests not in the personality of the preacher, but in the voice of God revealed in Scripture.
Drawing from 2 Timothy | 4:1–5, Isaiah | 40:8, 1 Corinthians | 1:18–25, Romans | 10:14–17, and Hebrews | 4:12, we contrast faithful proclamation with the modern temptation toward ear-tickling messages and entertainment-driven ministry. God’s people do not need clever speeches; they need to hear the living God through His Word.
Join us as we rediscover the centrality of preaching and reflect on what it means to hear heaven speak through the Scriptures week after week.
