Redding beteken nie altyd onmiddellike verlossing nie

Lukas skryf: ‘Toe Hy ‘n sekere dorpie binnegegaan het, het tien melaatse mans Hom teëgekom… Hulle het hard na Hom geroep: ‘Jesus, Here, kry ons tog jammer!’ Toe Hy hulle sien, sê Hy aan hulle: ‘Gaan wys julleself aan die priesters.’ Terwyl hulle soontoe op pad was, het hulle gesond geword’ (verse 12-14 NLV). Wanneer iemand in daardie dae van melaatsheid genees is, moes ‘n priester hulle eers rein verklaar voordat hulle weer by die samelewing kon aansluit. Die Bybel sê nie vir ons hoe ver weg die priesters was, hoe lank hulle reis was en of hulle genesing aan die begin, middel of einde van hulle reis plaasgevind het nie. Daar is ‘n belangrike les vir diegene wat met verslawing sukkel, hieruit te leer. Dis wonderlik wanneer God ons onmiddellik verlos. Baie mense het egter dieselfde ervaring as hierdie tien melaatse mans. Soms moet jy jou verlossing tree vir tree inloop deur God te vertrou tot dit volkome is. Dis dan wanneer ons as volgelinge van Christus medelye moet hê, geduld aan die dag moet lê en by hulle moet staan totdat hulle gesond gemaak is. Mense wat byvoorbeeld aan pornografie verslaaf is, sukkel met ‘n verslawing wat beide moreel en geestelik is. Dieselfde emosionele bindingshormone wat na seks vrygestel word, word vrygestel wanneer jy pornografie kyk. Dit maak dit 'n kragtige verslawing. Een man wat sy verslawing oorkom het, vertel: ‘Dit was 'n kwessie van om my gedagtes met die Woord te vernuwe, sowel as om werklike dissipline en verantwoording teenoor iemand wat my probleem verstaan, te hê. Ek moes mense kry wat ek kon vertrou; mense wat my nie sou verneder of oor my skinder nie, mense wat standvastige en liefdevolle vriendskap sou bied.’ God gee nie op op mense wat seer het nie en ons moet ook nie.
