LABOUR DEPARTMENT TAKING STEPS TO DEAL WITH EXPLOITATION OF DOMESTIC WORKERS

The Department of Employment and Labour warns that it’s conducting proactive and reactive daily inspections to clamp down on employment abuses in the domestic workers’ sector.
A recent Sweep-South survey conducted in the sector showed that domestic workers in the country are still being under-paid, taking home on average 2,800-rand a month.
Labour minister Thulas Nxesi says his department will be taking steps to deal with the exploitation and abuse of domestic workers.
Nxesi says the department will utilise different methods to deal with cases.

ACTION-SA SAYS DA MISREPRESENTED THE PARTY'S POSITION IN JOHANNESBURG

ActionSA in Gauteng says it is disappointed by the misrepresentation of their efforts to improve the Johannesburg coalition.
Party speaker, Bongani Baloyi, says DA provincial leader, Solly Msimanga, intentionally misrepresented Action-SA’s position as a power play in the province.
He says they made suggestions within the multi-party coalition that the open speaker position in Johannesburg should be filled by the IFP rather than the DA.

MAYOR TO MEET UP WITH MINING BOSSES FOLLOWING MINE DAM BURT IN JAGERSFONTEIN

Kopanong Local Municipality mayor, Xolani Tseletsele, says he will be meeting with mining bosses today, following the collapse of yet another mine dam wall in Jagersfontein in the Free State.
This comes just weeks after a dam wall burst at the same mine, resulting in the death of at least one person, while hundreds were left homeless.
Tseletsele told Newzroom Afrika that the latest incident could be the result of the recent heavy rainfall in the area.
