Health CPD Seminar: Measuring in-hospital claim volatility for more accurate claim forecasting. The presentation considers the concept of risk pools and risk pooling that goes to the heart of the business of a medical scheme. Risk pool arguments have been used in the past by the regular to limit medical savings 25%, to encourage smaller schemes to amalgamate and to restrict the number of benefits options allowable. The presentation focuses on risk pooling as a means to manage catastrophic risks and to manage fluctuations in non-catastrophic risks. Presented by Gary Scott who is a consulting Actuary specialising in financial and risk management aspects of health care in South Africa.
