Various SAM Task Groups have been working hard on the recalibration of the non-life parameters within the standard formula. This includes the non-life premium and reserve risk and the non-life catastrophe risk sub-modules. The recalibrated standard formula forms part of the second Quantitative Impact Study considering the impact of the new SAM regulatory framework. Eugéne van der Westhuizen chairs the Non-Life Underwriting Risk Working Group (formed by the Capital Requirements Task Group) and has been at the centre of the recalibration process. He shares insights around the recalibration process and the updated parameters for the non-life premium and reserve risk and the non-life catastrophe risk sub-modules. Sias Esterhuizen provides some valuable comments on how to gain the most value from completing QIS2.
