The Cities of Refuge: Finding Sanctuary in Christ | Joshua 20
In this episode of the Let’s Talk radio series with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church (The Greater Joshua), we examine the establishment of the Old Testament Cities of Refuge in Joshua 20. In ancient Israel, God commanded Joshua to set apart six accessible sanctuary cities to protect individuals fleeing the avenger of blood. These strategic cities provided divine justice, unmerited mercy, and legal protection.
Yet, these historical safe havens served as a powerful shadow pointing to a far greater reality: Jesus Christ. While the ancient cities offered safety only to unintentional manslayers, our ultimate High Priest opens the gates of grace to willful sinners. Through His substitutionary death and resurrection, Christ completely satisfies divine justice, offers full acquittal, and provides eternal security. Run to the true sanctuary found in the gospel of grace.
