: Living Among the People You Serve: Incarnational Missions in John 1 and 1 Corinthians 9
True biblical mission requires proximity, not distance. In this episode of Let’s Talk Fantastic Friday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore what it truly means to live among the people you are called to serve, moving past arm’s-length ministry to embrace genuine, presence-driven engagement.
Drawing directly from the Legacy Standard Bible, we begin with the divine model of the incarnation in John | 1:14, where the eternal Word took on human flesh and dwelt among us. We then examine the Apostle Paul’s missionary methodology in 1 Corinthians | 9:19–23, discovering how he became "all things to all men" through gospel-centered cultural adaptability and sacrificial humility.
Whether cross-cultural evangelism takes you across an ocean or simply across the street, effective discipleship, pastoral care, and Christian outreach demand lowering our walls, surrendering personal comfort, and showing persistent presence in broken spaces. Gospel witness is not meant to be shouted from an ivory tower; it flourishes when holy lives intersect with hurting communities in everyday life.
Listen today to reflect on how you can follow Christ’s example, step out of your comfort zone, and bring the light of the gospel directly into the lives of those around you.
