: Parenting as Stewardship Before God | Deuteronomy 6 & Ephesians 6 Family Discipleship
Parenting is not ownership but stewardship before God, and this Wisdom Wednesday episode with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church we explores how Scripture reshapes our understanding of family, discipleship, and the home. Drawing from Deuteronomy | 6:4–9, Psalm | 127:1–5, Proverbs | 1:7, and Ephesians | 6:4, we see that children are gifts entrusted by God and that parents are called to cultivate homes where God’s Word shapes daily life.
Psalm 127 reminds us that unless Yahweh builds the house, human effort is in vain (Psalm | 127:1), and that children are a heritage from the Lord, described as arrows in the hand of a mighty man (Psalm | 127:3–4). Deuteronomy 6 calls parents to love Yahweh with all their heart and to teach His commandments diligently in every moment of life—when sitting, walking, rising, and resting (Deuteronomy | 6:5–7). Proverbs 1:7 grounds this in wisdom: the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge. Ephesians 6:4 then brings balance, calling fathers to bring children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord without provoking them to anger.
This episode explores biblical parenting, Christian discipleship in the home, family worship, and raising children in a world of competing voices. It also addresses the pain of children who wander and the call to faithful, God-dependent parenting rather than outcome-driven control.
May this encourage you to see your home as a place of covenant stewardship under God’s grace, and may it lead you to reflect and trust the Lord more deeply in your calling as a parent.
