Christ Our Passover: The Lord’s Supper and New Covenant Worship (1 Corinthians 11)
The Lord’s Supper is far more than a religious ritual—it is a Christ-cantered proclamation of the gospel rooted in the Old Testament Passover and fulfilled in the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In this Theology Tuesday episode with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we explore 1 Corinthians | 11:23–26 and trace the rich biblical connections back to Exodus | 12. Just as the blood of the Passover lamb brought deliverance from judgment, so Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians | 5:7).
We examine how Jesus transformed the Passover meal into the Lord’s Supper, instituting the new covenant promised in Jeremiah | 31:31–34 and established through His blood. Along the way, we consider the significance of remembrance, proclamation, self-examination, and the hope of Christ’s return. Key passages include Exodus | 12:13, John | 1:29, 1 Corinthians | 5:7, Hebrews | 9:22–26, Hebrews | 10:12, and 1 Corinthians | 11:28.
The Lord’s Table points backward to Calvary, speaks to the present life of the church, and directs our eyes forward to the return of the risen King. Join us as we reflect on the beauty of Christ our Passover and the significance of the Lord’s Supper in the life of the assembled church.
