John 15 describes how God works with us according to our state. Understanding how God is dealing with us helps us understand where we are with respect to Him. Am I truly one of the branches? Then I should expect certain actions of the Father toward me. Am i not in Christ? The the Father's actions will be different towards me. Locate yourself in this image from John 15, and you can take the right action to respond to God.
