Former Johannesburg Mayor turned member of the mayoral committee in charge of community safety, Kabelo Gwamanda has been placed on special leave. Gwamanda confirmed through a statement that he would take special leave in the interest of "transparency". Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero also confirmed that he had put Gwamanda on special leave. The move follows a meeting between Gwamanda and Morero. The Sunday Times reported that Gwamanda was arrested for an alleged funeral policy scam he ran in Soweto in 2011.
