Di Poupard an amazing horsewoman who has devoted her life to rescuing horses, with us is Margie Keyter who took over the Unit from Di..
She started the S.P.C A. Horse rescue unit in 1984 Which she managed for nearly 10 years She had an amazing childhood which we hear about in the podcast.
During the past 40 years abused and misunderstood horses have taught Di effective communication skills, Di developed the” Equi-sense Personal Contact Method”
She developed the” Equine Visual weight Estimate” which enabled unit inspectors, an on-site a consistent way of assessing the physical weight of undernourished horses.
She developed a diet program for undernourished horses in S.P.C.A. care “.
The Equi-sense Diet Sheet. “This was published in the Journal of Equine Science in 1993
Di also presented this and another paper, Rehabilitation of Horses Suffering from Malnutrition in South Africa.” at the” First International Conference on Equine Rescue” held in California U.S.A.
Di gave lectures at Onderstepoort Veterinary College which gave her international recognition, she was asked to present her paper; Positive Behaviour Training of Equines at the International Conference on Human -Animal Interaction.in Geneva Switzerland.
During the years 1985 to 1992… 6,490 assorted Equines were inspected by the Horse Rescue Unit covering a distance of 195,000 km across South Africa.
Carte Blanche did a documentary of her training methods which resulted in her doing some 60,000 km giving clinics around South Africa.
In 2000 she published her paper” Practical eyeblink Desensitisation Procedure’ in the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science.
This was hailed as a major breakthrough in Animal Psychology.
