A new report published by the university of cape town research unit has found that most smokers have been able to buy cigarettes during lock-down. It established that not only did the illegally buying of cigarettes come with a hefty price tag, but there were also unfamiliar brands. Nearly 90 percent of smokers had stocked up before the ban on cigarette sales came into effect, but not enough to ensure they could survive any extensions to the lock-down period.
