Reflecting on Nakba Day
--:--
The 72nd anniversary of Nakba Day coincides with the last ten days of Ramadan this year. Every year on the 15th May, Palestinians mark the anniversary of the Nakba, or “catastrophe”, when the Israeli occupation dispossessed almost 1 million Palestinians from their homes and lands. In the West Bank, Palestinians are expected to mark the day with a 72-second-long siren, representing the 72 years of national mourning, launching balloons in the colours of the Palestinian flag, and hanging black mourning flags.
