PHA High Court Ruling Victory
--:--
So this story, is quite a big one. We know that the Phillipi Horticultural Campaign has been arguing for the preservation of a key piece of agricultural land in the City of the Cape Town’s jurisdiction that is under threat from proposed development.
Now, in a precedent-setting ruling yesterday, Judge Kate Savage directed that South African municipalities must specifically take climate change and water scarcity into account when making planning decisions. The Western Cape High Court ruling states that the rezone permission and
environmental authorisations for the development known as Oaklands City are suspended, and
must be returned to their respective appeal bodies for reconsideration.
Online we have James Brent Stayn of the dept of enviromental affairs and Susan Coleman of the PHA campaign.
