Bayview community requested to silence the athaan- call to prayer- at Masjidus Saaliheen
--:--
Yesterday, The Muslim Judicial Council issued a statement to address a recent request made to discontinue the athaan or call to prayer at Masjidus Saaliheen in Bayview. According to the Imam of the mosque Moulana Yusuf Mohammed, the letter received stated an “alleged noise disturbance.” The MJC has called for a meeting with the City of Cape Town and the mosque committee for next Tuesday to discuss the matter.
The incident has also led to the Bayview CPF and a local church lending support to the mosques broadcasting of the athaan with members launch a petition to oppose the silencing of the athaan.
