The City of Cape Town's decision to lower water restrictions and tariffs to Level 5 met criticism

The pressure on Cape Town residents to save water was recently eased following the decision by the City of Cape Town (CoCT) to reduce water restrictions and tariffs to Level 5 next month.
In a statement released earlier this week, deputy executive mayor Ian Neilson said the lowering of the restrictions follows an increase in average dam levels, which currently stands at 68 per cent.
"This will bring tariff relief of between 26, 6 per cent and 70 per cent per kilolitre of water depending on the usage and tariff category.’’
Meanwhile, the decision to lower water restrictions has not been met without criticism from water activist raising awareness about the situation in the City.
