The Phronesis Students Development Trust or PSDT is an organisation dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty, eradicating unemployment and increasing economic development through Basic Education support.
Tsitsi Sekgobela, who spent many years in the corporate sector has now dedicated her time, experience and energy into the PSDT. Their pro-grammes include daily nutrition centre for 401 primary school children, homework assistance classes, remedial Maths, English, Information Technology and Science classes and child psychology.
They have asked for assistance in building a greenhouse to house a vegetable garden. With the price of food continually increasing and donor sup-port declining as a result of our current economic situation, they are look-ing for an independent sustainable solution.
Besides the apparent nutritional value for the children, another advantage is that the food garden will also serve as an opportunity for the primary beneficiaries to learn about social responsibility through sustainable living.
Hot Cares will be donating the materials to them to construct their own Food Garden Green House.
Bernadette from Riverbend Steel reviewed the needs to build the green-house and has, as usual, given us the best advice as well as a discounted price.
Hot Cares will also provide the gardening tools, soil and soil nutrients as well as seedlings and supplies to get the garden growing.
The total value of this exciting project is R20 000!
