Being Green - 15 June 2018

--:--
So you’re in the desert, any desert, far away from infrastructure, how do you ensure a supply of drinking water? No, this is not another episode of Survivor.

Well, you can be clever and engineer condensing the night-time dew off your tent, or look around for a dry river-course and dig down in hope…. good luck!

OR you could have a Source hydropanel, and get quality drinking water out of air and sunshine. No connections required, no batteries. Just air and sunlight.
What promises to be a game-changer in the supply of safe potable water is the hydropanel, manufactured by Zero Mass Water.

Cody Friesen is the founder of Zero Mass who make the Source panels. Yhey’re based in the desert state of Arizona. Friesen is a materials scientist, entrepreneur and much more. I chatted to him at a demonstration of the Source hydropanel in Cape Town earlier this week. The principle underlying this amazing technology is hydroscopic materials and you’re probably familiar with at least a couple of them – sugar absorbs water from the air and becomes lumpy and soggy. It’s hydroscopic.
