8 May Rights of public engaged in protest

Last week tension were high in Mitchells Plain after community members from the area gathered on the corner of Highlands and Jakes Gerwel Drive to speak out against the recent protest by Siqalo residents. This after Chaos erupted last week when protesters barricaded roads, damaged property and set a truck alight.
During the tense standoff which happened last week, police arrested 30 people including 9 Mitchells Plain residents, on charges of public violence. Some of the detainees were released on a warning after they appeared in court last week
