In this episode of Sermons and Devotional on Radio Cape Pulpit, Rodney Brown brings a Bible message from Luke chapter 2, verse 49, where the twelve-year-old Jesus says to Mary and Joseph, "Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about my father's business?" Rodney notes that these are the only words we know that Jesus spoke during the first thirty years of His life. He reflects on how wonderful it is that even at twelve years old, Jesus was focused on doing the will of God the Father. He refers to Hebrews 10:9, where Jesus says, "I have come to do your will, O God," and explains that every day of His life, Jesus was doing the will of the Father. Although we know very little about those first thirty years, we know that the Father was pleased with Him, as He declared at Jesus' baptism in Matthew 3:17, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased," and again at the transfiguration in Matthew 17:5. Rodney explains that the will of God the Father for Jesus was that He would offer Himself once for all on the cross of Calvary, as stated in Hebrews 10:10. He contrasts Jesus, who perfectly did the Father's will, with all of humanity, who have failed and sinned. He quotes Isaiah 53:6, "We are all like sheep who have gone astray; we have turned every one to our own way." He then points to Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, "Not my will but thine be done," and explains that on the cross, Jesus took the curse of the law that we had broken, so that we could be set free from that curse, as stated in Galatians 3:13. He highlights Jesus' words on the cross, "It is finished" (John 19:30), declaring that the will of God for His birth, life, and death had been completed. Rodney then notes that God raised Jesus from the dead and highly exalted Him, as stated in Philippians 2:9. He emphasises that God's desire for all mankind is that each one would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth—the truth being Christ Himself, who said, "I am the way and the truth and the life." Rodney concludes by urging listeners to come to a personal knowledge of Christ as Saviour, and then they too can begin to do the will of God the Father and be about the Father's business. He closes with his email address for those who wish to respond.
