We Must Be Saved – Rodney Brown on Acts 4:12 and the Necessity of Salvation

In this episode of Sunday Devotion on Radio Cape Pulpit, Rodney Brown brings a Bible message from Acts chapter 4, verse 12, where Peter declares, "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Rodney continues his series of meditations on the little word "must"—that which is necessary and an absolute necessity. He reflects on previous messages: Jesus' words to Nicodemus, "You must be born again"; "He must be lifted up," referring to the cross; and John the Baptist's words, "He must increase, but I must decrease." Now he focuses on Peter's words, "We must be saved." Rodney explains that the reason we must be saved is because all have sinned and come short of God's demands, and God, the righteous Judge of all the earth, will do what is right concerning sin and sinners. But he rejoices that salvation is available—though only in one person, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He notes that Peter spoke these words to the same Jewish leaders who had hated Jesus, rejected Him, and crucified Him, yet God in His love gave them another opportunity to be saved. He emphasises that God so loved the world—not just Israel—that He gave His only begotten Son. Rodney explains that Jesus' name means "Jehovah is salvation," and that salvation is freely offered to those who repent and believe. He warns that those who continue to reject Jesus will have no eternal hope, but God in His long-suffering gives us another opportunity today to hear and respond.
