Dr. Wendy Christien on Anti-Inflammatory Eating: Food Swaps for Better Health & Wellness

In this informative episode of Radio Cape Pulpit, Dr. Wendy Christien discusses practical, everyday food swaps to reduce chronic inflammation – a root cause of many illnesses including fatigue, headaches, joint pain, gut issues, heart disease, and diabetes. She explains that inflammation is a natural healing response, but when it becomes chronic, it harms the body. The good news is that we have some control over it through our diet. Dr. Christien recommends swapping refined breakfasts (like sugary cereals and toast with jam) for protein-rich options like eggs with vegetables, low-carb muesli with Greek yogurt and berries, or cooked oats with cinnamon and seeds. She emphasizes the importance of stabilizing blood sugar levels, avoiding pro-inflammatory unhealthy fats and processed meats (which are high in sodium and additives), and reducing sugar intake. She explains that whole fruits are better than fruit juices because they contain fiber and antioxidants. She also encourages the use of herbs and spices (turmeric, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, rosemary, thyme) to flavor food without excess salt.
