Despite this decline, 68% of CEOs still anticipate South Africa's GDP growth rate for 2025 to be 1.5%, while 32% expect it to exceed 1.5%. The Merchantec CEO Confidence Index, which consists of five components, collates views from CEOs of top South African companies on a quarterly basis and has provided a leading indicator into how business leaders perceive local market conditions and the economy going forward, by sector since 2009.
