The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) is stepping up to fight the closure of ArcelorMittal South Africa’s long-steel plants, a move that could result in the loss of up to 3,500 jobs. Numsa has expressed deep concern over the potential impact
of these closures on workers, local communities, and the broader manufacturing and industrial sectors. The union is calling for urgent government intervention, as they believe that the closure of these plants would not only exacerbate the already high levels
of unemployment and inequality but also hinder the country’s industrialization efforts.
