The recent announcement by SARS to discontinue the small parcel exemption on imported clothing products is a severe blow to consumers. The exemption, also known as a “de minimis” is a lifeline for cash-strapped consumers allowing them to purchase clothing and
other items from e-commerce platforms such as Shein and Temu at factory cost.
