Voice of Change - Penny Grimbeek - Historical figures and their meaning on our identity and heritage as individuals

--:--
21.10.2021 - Voice of Change gets historical this week as we discuss important historical figures like Jan Smuts and Irma Stern! As well as the complications behind statue removals, historical figures and their meaning on our identity and heritage as individuals, and as a nation. Lauren is joined by Yentl Kohler, artist, educator and curator of the Irma Stern Museum in Cape Town, and Penny Grimbeek who curated Jan Smuts house in Pretoria, and won an award for restoration on this site.
Yentl Kohler is currently the Curator and Educator at the UCT Irma Stern Museum having started in August 2021, prior to this she was The Senior Museum Educator at Iziko South African National Gallery between 2013- 2021. She believes in the power of visual art and the benefit it has as a societal change agent – debunking artistic stereotypes and facilitating transformation, transparency and learning, by bridging the gap between the realities of the South African context and freedom provided by creative expression.
