“A Team Like Chiefs Shouldn’t Be Underdogs”

--:--
It appears that Kaizer Chiefs will have more time to prepare for their CAF Champions League group-stage fixture against Wydad AC of Morocco, however, when they do finally face last season's semi-finalists, they'll go into the fixture as clear underdogs due to their underwhelming form this campaign. Despite qualifying for the African continental competition’s group stage for the first time in club history, Amakhosi have also been knocked out of both the MTN8 and, more recently, the Nedbank Cup. Despite this, one former PSL star believes that the label of 'underdog' is one that a team like Chiefs shouldn't be proud of no matter who the opponent is or their circumstance.

In the latest episode of the SL podcast's "The Carwash", former Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Sean Roberts states "a team like Kaizer Chiefs should never be the ‘underdog’. We shouldn't say Chiefs and underdog in the same sentence". Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise stated "when it comes to the CAF champions League, the question is do you have enough personnel to be able to fight? They do have fighters, they've got Nurkovic and other guys. But if you don't want to fight, then play the younger guys and come back to prioritise the league. Because the truth of the matter is, they have to choose."
