41. The Weekly Wrap - 12 February

--:--
In this episode of the Weekly Wrap, Janine Ryan takes a look at some of the features and news included in the 12 February issue of Farmer’s Weekly, which will be on shelf from 5 February.

This issue focuses on farm safety and security, and Farmer’s Weekly looks at various surveillance technologies that can help farmers respond swiftly to possible threats. This focus also includes a feature on farmworker safety, and how farmers can mitigate the risks and hazards inherent in farm work. This issue also introduces listeners to the James Bond of the Beaufort West Stock Theft Unit; Sergeant Thabo Moletsane investigated 58 cases that led to 66 arrests during 2019/2020.

Ryan also takes a look at Carel and Willem Cilliers’ Bovelder herd in the Free State. This herd is one of the oldest Bovelder herds in the country, and produces no-nonsense beef cattle that thrive on sourveld.

Also discussed is the current state of South Africa’s banana industry, and the challenges that are leading to the area planted to bananas shrinking.

This issue also includes a story on ivermectin, and why people should not rush to their local co-op to buy and consume ivermectin registered for animal use.

Ryan also discusses the high price of ginger and the Ingonyama Trust’s concerning financials.

If you are serious about farm safety and security, don’t miss this issue of Farmer’s Weekly!
