In this week of the Weekly Wrap, Janine Ryan and Sindira Chetty speak about the 1 and 8 January issue of Farmer’s Weekly. This issue is the New Year issue, and includes commodity outlooks for 2021.
Chetty and Ryan elaborate on the outlook for the economy and land reform in 2021, as well as the outlooks for the red meat and poultry sectors, as well as the outlooks for avocados, nuts, maize and wheat.
They also speak about a community outreach programme in which maize farmers are providing food to needy communities, and how backgrounding beef cattle can save farmers money.
Ryan also highlights some of the cover headlines for the 15 and 22 January issue, which include more commodity outlooks, as well as what food cash-strapped South Africans are likely to buy in 2021. There is also a feature on how yellow field peas can offer an alternative income stream for sugar cane growers, and a production feature on a top Merino stud in the Eastern Cape.
