Is it safe to go to the mountain for initiation during the pandemic?
Initiation schools are a cultural practice that has been conducted from many years ago where young men are circumcised and being taught on how to be men as they transition into manhood. As we are facing a global pandemic, one would wonder what impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on this practice and the people involved. Zolani Mkiva, Spokesperson of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa joins us to further educate us on how the pandemic has affected the operation of initiation schools. We also spoke to 1st year Law student Mbulelo Qotoyi who was to have gone to the mountain during the 2019 winter season which was at the height of the pandemic in South Africa.
