Media Law: Disinformation - Episode 2

--:--
Welcome to Webber Wentzel Legal Insights. With over 150 years of experience and deep industry knowledge, Webber Wentzel is the leading full-service law firm on the African continent.

In this series, your host Dario Milo unpacks media law in an exciting and informative way. In this episode he explores the problem of disinformation (false or misleading information that is spread deliberately to deceive). Although this episode is not focused on Covid-19, and was recorded before the "false news" crime now enacted in the Lockdown Regulations – the topic is particularly timely given the extent of disinformation that we have seen related to the pandemic.

Dario is joined on this episode by William Bird, Director of Media Monitoring Africa, an organisation that monitors the media and implements successful media strategies for change. Together they will tackle topics such as using defamation law to address disinformation, Media Monitoring Group's Real 411 initiative to address digital disinformation, and whether there should be tighter legal regulation of disinformation.
