Power blackouts in South Africa as a result of continuous breakdowns at Eskom have shut down mining operations across the country. Harmony Gold, Impala Platinum, and Sibanye-Stillwater have been forced to cut production since Monday owing to power shortages.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged that should Eskom's inability to provide electricity to South African homes and businesses continue, this could lead the country's economy into a recession.
