He’s a legend in the game loved and remembered for playing the character of Tshawe in the 90s comedy Emzini wezinsiswa, where he became a household name. Recently, he played the role of uncle Mzoxolo on The Queen and he still had audiences in stitches.

Says: He got his sense of humour from his mother’s side of the family. His father was a very proud man and never smiled and people would often get scared when they see him. Thank God he married his mother. Maternal grandfather was loud, he had a big laugh and a great sense of humour. He loved making jokes about Bible characters. That’s where he learned humour.

Was on Emzini wezinsizwa which ran on television from 1993 to 2005. Also did industrial theatre – Actors would perform plays when there were disputes between business owners and workers in order to help them resolve issues.

Says recent role ‘Mzoxolo’ has similarities to who he is: oves gambling, he’s from the Eastern Cape and he’s a family man. He also has a sense of humour. It was easy for him to assume this character. Could never play a criminal or a murderer.

At the age of 67 he’s still going strong, mostly because he considers himself to be youthful and mischievous. Nothing makes him feel better like walking into a mall and making people laugh when they come to chat to him. Laughter is very important to him. He’s had big challenges in life, like when his divorce. It was laughter that kept him going through difficult challenges.

Can also talk about how he felt when his co-stars of Emzini Wezinsizwa passed away – latest being Washington “Jwara” Sixolo in 2017.
