The 18 months Winnie Madikizela-Mandela spent in solitary confinement in the 1970s resulted in profound post-traumatic stress that was never treated. She was instead banished to Brandfort afterwards. In paying her tribute to liberation leader, whom she first met in 1976, journalist, author and activist Charlene Smith has scolded white South Africans and social media for their comments. Drive Time spoke to Charlene form the USA.
