The Toyota Cheetahs wrote their own unique piece of history on Saturday by becoming the first South African team to win a Guinness Pro14 match.

The Cheetahs ran in eight tries as they beat the Italian outfit, Zebre, 54-39 at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, this leading the game 19-18 at the half time break.

The winger, Makazole Mapimpi, and the hooker, Torsten van Jaarsveld, each scored a brace of tries in the match.

Two yellow cards did help the cause of the visitors, as the Cheetahs capitalised on the one man advance and in those 20 minutes scored four tries.

The Cheetahs flyhalf, Ernst Stapelberg, was on debut for the side and rose to the occasion in what was just his second senior rugby match. The 22-year-old pivot converted seven on the Cheetahs tries and also sent a penalty through the uprights for a personal tally of 17 points.
