
Schools debate limits on social media access

South Africa is debating whether learners’ access to social media should be restricted during school hours, as countries including Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Greece introduce tighter rules for children online. Four schools are competing in the National Schools Moot Court Programme, which this year focuses on digital rights, online safety and the best interests of the child. Phemelo speaks to SA Human Rights Commissioner Tshepo Madlingozi about the importance of this initiative.
