Today’s guest is Stephen Moll, amateur herpetologist and part-time teacher at Soetwater Environmental Education Centre. He talks about the snakes of the Deep South and looks at which species share our neighbourhoods, their role in our environment, and whether we really need to be afraid of them!
About The Soetwater Environmental Education Centre.
Located on the Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula, beside the lighthouse at Kommetjie, Soetwater Environmental Education Centre offers a unique outdoor learning experience surrounded by the mountains of Slangkop Nature Reserve, pristine fynbos and the ocean. The Centre provides an inspiring alternative to the traditional classroom, teaching learners about plants, animals, the ocean, air and the delicate balance of the natural environment. Through hands-on experiences, learners are encouraged to see, touch, smell and experience nature while developing a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility. Beyond environmental education, the Centre promotes personal growth, self-respect, teamwork and a sense of responsibility for protecting the planet. Residential programmes allow learners to immerse themselves fully in the experience, including shared accommodation, activities and preparing meals together. Soetwater generally accommodates learners from Grade 5 to Grade 12 and also offers specialised camps for adults.
