Created in the Image of God: The Vinedresser – Discipline, Pruning, and the Fruit of Righteousness

In this twelfth episode of the Behold the Bride series on Radio Cape Pulpit, host Sylvia Colville turns her attention to the Father as the Vinedresser from John 15. Continuing the Created in the Image of God programme, this episode examines how the Vinedresser tends to every branch in Christ with the goal of producing much fruit—the character and nature of God in us. Sylvia explains the two distinct works of the Father: discipline, which removes sin from the lives of unfruitful branches, and pruning, which cuts away self from fruitful branches so they may bear even more. Drawing on Hebrews 12 and the natural practices of a vineyard, she shows how God lovingly lifts us out of the dust of the world and cuts away everything that hinders kingdom purposes. The episode also explores the vital role of intimacy and abiding in Christ, illustrating how holiness and transformation are birthed through spending time in God's presence. Quoting extensively from Francis Frangipane, Sylvia emphasises that humility and dying to self are the substructure of all transformation, and that grace is given to the humble. The episode closes with a prayer and a preview of next week's topic, the lamp of the Lord.
