City Power has disconnected electricity to the Children’s Memorial Institute in Parktown, affecting 22 child-care NPOs, special-needs facilities and a provincial hospital laundry. The move follows a disputed R44-million municipal billing debt, with the campus now relying on generators at a reported cost of R30,000 a day. We also look at the Johannesburg Society for the Blind, where the City has written off R8.1-million in billing errors but is still demanding R31.5-million in outstanding accounts.
