AfriForum Under Attack – A Christian Perspective on Media Bias, Community Upliftment, and State Failure

In this episode of Radio Cape Pulpit's Christelike Perspektief op die Nuus (Christian Perspective on the News), Dr. Peter Hammond addresses a recent News24 "witch hunt" targeting the community organisation AfriForum. He criticises News24 (which he refers to as "fake news 24/7") for attacking a group that has received clean audits for 20 years and is actively involved in community upliftment, safety, and infrastructure projects across South Africa. He highlights AfriForum's contributions, including: supporting 117 neighbourhood and farm watches, operating 24/7 control rooms, deploying 34 drones, training over 10,000 volunteers, installing 135 emergency water points, and pursuing about 80 active court cases against corruption and municipal failure. Hammond argues that the media should be exposing state failure and corruption, not attacking organisations that step in where municipalities have failed. He calls out the financial decline of News24 as evidence of their misplaced priorities and urges listeners to support those working for a safer and better-functioning South Africa.
