How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming South African Mining

Mining remains one of the biggest contributors to South Africa's economy and a major employer here in Mpumalanga. But the industry is under growing pressure to improve safety, increase productivity, reduce costs and remain globally competitive.

Increasingly, mining companies are turning to artificial intelligence and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to help them make faster, smarter decisions. A new study by PwC and the Minerals Council South Africa suggests AI is no longer a concept for the future, it's already changing the way mines operate, from predicting equipment failures to improving safety underground.

Joining us to unpack the findings is Ian Mackay, Associate Director for Mining Transformation at PwC South Africa.
