In 2008 Schalk Brits made his Springbok debut as one of South Africa's most dynamic and exciting hookers. But by the mid-2010s his Bok career looked all but over. Constantly fighting for the lone hooker position in the team, Brits was usually competing for that one spot against the team's captain for most of his career.
But just when he thought it was all over, out of the blue, new Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus called Schalk in 2018 and invited him to come back.
The comeback was complete when in 2019 Brits actually captained the Springboks a the Rugby World Cup and helped his country lift the trophy against the odds.
