Fresh hopes for ending conflict in the Middle East emerged after the first round of US-Iran negotiations concluded with what mediators described as “encouraging progress”. The talks produced a proposed roadmap towards a final agreement within 60 days, alongside commitments aimed at easing regional tensions, securing key shipping routes and advancing efforts to end fighting in Lebanon. Phemelo discussed the significance of the developments with defence and strategic analyst Dr Joan Swart and Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions Professor Jeff Halper.
