Health authorities are investigating a suspected outbreak of the rare hantavirus on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean that has left three people dead and several others ill. The vessel remains off the coast of Cape Verde, with some passengers and crew requiring urgent medical care. At least one case has been confirmed, while others are under investigation. Hantavirus - typically spread through contact with infected rodent waste - can cause severe and potentially fatal illnesses affecting the lungs or kidneys. While rare, early treatment is critical.
