US Sanctions Rwanda Over DRC Conflict/Middle East Conflict

The United States has imposed sanctions on the Rwanda Defence Force and senior military officials over their alleged role in the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Washington is calling for Rwandan troops to withdraw from the mineral-rich region. Rwanda has repeatedly denied backing the AFC/M23 rebel group, which now controls large parts of eastern DRC following a rapid offensive last year. Meanwhile, tensions are also rising in the Middle East, with renewed calls to rethink military arrangements in the Gulf region.
