The Public Protector has dropped a bombshell report finding Gauteng’s much-talked-about Crime Prevention Wardens, the Amapanyaza were created and deployed unlawfully. Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka says the entire operation breached the Constitution, from recruitment to deployment, with no legal framework to support it. The findings landed just hours after Premier Panyaza Lesufi announced that the wardens would be pulled off the streets and “repurposed.” What does this mean for Lesufi’s flagship initiative? Nzinga Qunta speaks to OUTA CEO Wayne Duvenage for reaction and analysis.
